Designmoo is a website dedicated to giving designers a place to share resources. Users can post fonts, icons, brushes, illustrations and anything else they find useful for their design projects. Each contribution is presented with the name of the user and a link to their profile. Designmoo community members can download items and give an item a “like” when they find something useful. Each page also provides a list of other contributions made by the same user. Comments can be left on pages as well to provide a note of thanks or give users encouragement, tips or suggestions. A tagging system is built in so users can quickly categorize their work and search for specific items by tag. Popular tags are presented on the page to help users find what they need. Dropbox integration is included with the Designmoo Pro account. Along with a wealth of free resources, Designmoo also includes a marketplace that allows users to post items that are for sale. Some for sale items can be purchased through Designmoo while others require a purchase made through a third party website.Show more screenshots »
Designmoo.com was created by Rich Hemsley. The site is maintained by Chris Wallace and the Lift team. The website offers designers a way to share their skills and access free resources. Although the site seems focused on free items and tools, it also maintains a marketplace that does require a purchase to access the tools listed there.
Designmoo is appealing because it has created an entire community of designers. There is an exchange of skills and work on Designmoo through the free community created tools. Users can access free fonts, brushes, illustrations, icons and many other items. The website can help designers complete projects and share their skills with a larger audience.
Designmoo welcomes users with a stylishly elegant website design. The homepage includes a pale yellow header with the red and white Designmoo logo in the upper, left hand corner. The logo gives the site a trendy personality with a flowing text and three gold stars sparkling in the lower corner. The item pages present the user with a large image along the left side, the author name at the top and comments below. Popular tags can be found along the right hand side.
A visitor can join the Designmoo community by clicking the red “Sign Up” link in the upper, right hand corner of the page. The registration form appears on the next page and requires a username, email address, password and name. Users can also add a Twitter and Dribbble username, website URL and a Forrst and Lovedsgn username. A small box is checked at the bottom of the form to sign up for the Designmoo newsletter. Users must manually uncheck the box to opt out of email updates.
Designmoo provides users the option of a free or paid membership. The free account includes all basic features and unlimited access. The Pro plan includes a storefront with digital download capabilities, premium file downloads, the ability to sync files with a Dropbox account, the ability to share externally hosted resources and widescreen preview uploads. The Pro plan costs around $12 per month, around $55 for six months or around $85 for one year.
Designmoo.com was created specifically for designers. This is the one group who will benefit the most from the website. Amateurs may love the free account, which gives access to user made resources. Professionals may find the Pro account features more appealing.
